PS Plus Free Games Makes A Big Change With Essential Tier

June 13, PSMore will merge with PS Now in a new three-tier system consisting of PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extras and PS Plus Premium. The higher the level, the more expensive it is. How profitable these services turn out remains to be seen, but they show promise.

Not to mention that several players will receive a few months, even years, of PS Plus Premium at a low price. When the service automatically upgrades players, those with PS Plus and PS Now will get the upgraded version, depending on the length of the longer subscription. This led to a ton of fans stacking PS Plus subscriptions ahead of launch, until Sony turned it off. It’s understandable on both sides: Sony doesn’t want to lose money, and if someone can access a library of 700+ games on the cheap, then more power to them.

Looking at all three tiers, however, it’s worth noting that Sony has included a contradictory promise. It remains to be seen how this happens, but it’s stated that PS Plus Essentials won’t have any changes… right after noticing a serious change to the main tier, which is effectively PS Plus as it is right now.

PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium give players hundreds of games from day one…

First of all, it is a question of determining what exactly would compensate for this change. PS Plus Essentials was billed as PS Plus as it is now, with the Extra and Premium tiers being the upgraded versions. PS Plus Extra includes all Essential tier benefits, plus a catalog of “up to 400” PS4 and PS5 games, including first-party and third-party titles.

Confirmed titles, at this time, include Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel Spider-Man, Marvel Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11and Return. All of these can be downloaded. In other words, the PS Plus collection is essentially expanded at this level (in a rather big way). A library of 400 games is not to be overlooked.

But then PS Plus Premium dials that up a notch. This expands the aforementioned library with 340 PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 games (although PS3 games are only available via the Cloud). The other analysis is accessible via streaming or download. To even sweeten the deal, Sony will be offering time-limited game trials for customers at this tier, though the details aren’t quite clear yet.

Either way, many will be curious if these new tiers prove their worth – PS Plus Premium costs $17.99/month after all. Some of this may depend on the game library of PS Plus Premiums, which has yet to be confirmed.

But June 2022 PS Plus Free Games Will Be Changed

Because of these new tiers, it makes sense that Sony would push subscribers to upgrade. It even goes without saying that more emphasis will be placed on Extra and Premium in the future. All in all, it’s a little hard to judge at the moment, but it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that PS Plus Essentials could become Xbox Games with Gold to PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium’s Game Pass, if not exactly comparable there -low. On the other hand, it would make sense for Sony to prove the worth of the whole package by ensuring that the PS Plus free games for June 2022 are top notch.

Until Sony confirms them, it’s unclear what their strategy is, but there is conflicting information in their PS Plus Essentials description, as noted below.

The very last line indicates that there is no change for PS Plus members at this level, but the first point is a change: two downloadable games per month. There haven’t been just two free PS Plus games given out each month of the year. In fact, the last month to just give away two PS Plus games was October 2020.

Now, Sony used to give out two free games on PS Plus, but for over a year or so it’s always been at least three, if not four. Of course, there’s absolutely no guarantee of these at all times, but fans have probably gotten used to three and four, not just two a month. There may have been a wording error, maybe that means a minimum of two, but as written, it seems to suggest that PS Plus free games, through Essential tier, will only be two games in the future.

You could think of it as trading one game for a library of hundreds, which is fair enough, but a lot depends on the games. If the two PS Plus games provided are of the same quality as they have been in recent months, then many will be unhappy; if they are of better quality, it may not matter after all. Either way, PS Plus Free Games June 2022 has a lot to prove.

PSMore subscribers typically receive a handful of free games each month.
