August is fast approaching and PlayStation Plus subscribers can expect a host of exciting new games to arrive.

And while no official information is available regarding August’s free PlayStation Plus games, we’re here to predict what could be up for grabs. with your free August PS Plus games.

Despite how PlayStation Plus has evolved over the past two weeks, one thing remains the same across all three tiers – new access to monthly games for Essential, Extra and Premium subscribers.

There is also a seven-day membership trial for the new PS Plus which has been added for new users on the PlayStation website and spotted by gamers on the PS Plus Reddit.

Just head over to the PlayStation site and you can sign up to try out 3 tiers and gain access to over 400 games. You will also be able to access the new game, Stray, which theoretically means you can download and complete the game for free.

July’s PlayStation Plus drop has only just landed, however, with August fast approaching, we’ll be predicting exactly what lies ahead next month.

Additionally, with the PlayStation Plus vs Xbox Game Pass still bubbling, we’ll be exploring some potential PlayStation Plus arrivals that could tip gamers over to Sony.

August PlayStation Plus free games planned

Despite no official information available regarding the free games that will be released with PlayStation Plus for August, there is a lot of speculation around the subject this month.

Below we’ll list some of the games that may be available in the August PlayStation Plus Essential package:

Hot Wheels Unleashed (PS4 + PS5)

The highly anticipated title didn’t do as well as expected when it launched, however, it’s still generating a lot of hype within the racing community.

Bringing the game to the PlayStation Plus Essential platform could very well give Hot Wheels gaming the boost it desperately needs.

The fun racing game features a huge inventory of crazy miniature cars, crazy tracks and exciting game modes, including online competitive play and career mode options.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Play as the one-armed wolf in this action-adventure game, face off against larger-than-life enemies in your quest to protect a young lord – a scion of an ancient bloodline.

The game now offers a GOTY edition and could be the perfect time to launch the original edition on PlayStation Plus in August.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Spider-Man: Miles Morales officially released on November 12, 2020 and was a big hit among fans of the franchise.

The 2020 action-adventure game was developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, based on the hugely popular Marvel Comic character Miles Morales.

While unconfirmed, we could see a bigger title like this coming to the PlayStation Plus Essential package to try and lure people into the more premium Extra/Premium options – both of which feature a large catalog of similar titles.

July PlayStation Plus Free Games

July’s PlayStation Plus release offered a trio of cool games this month, seemingly offering something for every type of gamer. The July games were officially announced on Wednesday, June 29 and were available to download on Tuesday, June 5 July.

Below we’ve listed the three games available for PlayStation Plus in July:

  • Crash Bandicoot 4: About time
  • Arcadegeddon
  • Dark Pictures Anthology: The Man from Medan

The well-balanced mix of games offers something for everyone; a fun platformer, a cooperative multiplayer mix of PvE and PvP, and chilling interactive drama for horror fans.

Of course, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will also have access to a much larger inventory.

What is PlayStation Plus?

PlayStation Plus is Sony’s monthly subscription service that allows gamers to participate in online multiplayer gaming for PS4 and PS5 consoles.

PlayStation Plus is required to play most games on Sony’s platform – with only a few free titles not included in this list.

Within the PlayStation Plus platform, users can sign up for three distinct levels of PS+:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential
  • Additional PlayStation Plus
  • PlayStation Plus Premium

Each offers increasing rewards and price ranges, with the Premium option offering the best in terms of value and games available.

Both PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium offer hundreds of additional games on top of the three monthly games that come with the Essential package.

What comes with PlayStation Plus Essential?

PlayStation Plus Essential is the basic subscription package offered by Sony, which costs you around £6.99 per month and offers three unique games each month.

PlayStation Plus Extra will cost you £10.99 per month and will give you access to the same three titles that Essential offers.

Along with that, PlayStation Plus Extra will also give you access to hundreds of games in the PlayStation Plus games catalog.

What comes with PlayStation Plus Premium?

PlayStation Plus Premium will cost you £13.49 per month and will give you access to the same three titles and full catalog of games as PlayStation Plus Extra.

Along with that, Premium subscribers will also get access to game trials and a classics catalog with hundreds of PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS5 games.

PS Plus July Premium Free Games Leaked?

Unlike the Essential package, the free PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games aren’t announced until later in the month. They are normally launched around the third week of each month, with announcements made a few days in advance.

That said, the July Extra and Premium games may have been leaked early by ResetEra leaker BlackBate, claiming that the following games will likely be available to Premium and Extra subscribers.

  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
  • Assassin’s Creed: Unity
  • Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered
  • Assassin’s Creed Cry of Freedom
  • Assassin’s Creed The Ezio Collection
  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade + Intermission Episode FF7R
  • Saints Row IV: re-elected

When are PS Plus monthly games announced?

As you probably already know, monthly PlayStation Plus games are announced on the last Wednesday of each month.

Games from all three tiers of PlayStation Plus will then be available on the first Tuesday of the month, with July games being announced on June 29 and available on July 5.

The same goes for the August PlayStation Plus release, with games announced on Wednesday July 27 and available to download by Tuesday August 2.
