10 real reasons why popular video games died overnight

Over the years, we have seen a lot of trends come and go. Many internet-fueled follies appeared out of nowhere in tremendous proportions, and then, as quickly as they appeared, disintegrated into nothing.

The gaming world is no stranger to these fickle modes, with some titles seemingly sweeping the world, engulfing everyone in their path, only to then vanish altogether.

It’s almost as if they never existed.

Sometimes this process happens so quickly that we barely have a moment to say, “Wait a minute, what happened? Where did he go ? And before we know it, we’re on to the next one.

There are a million different reasons why an extremely popular game can suddenly die a quick death, ranging from issues caused by the creators, questionable code, or even the players themselves. No matter how fantastic you think a game is, I promise you it is not immune to the test of time.

Ten years from now, will you remember the game that made the news last week?

When it released in the summer of 2016, absolutely everyone was playing Pokémon GO. As with most things, time has passed and the hype has calmed down a bit, but what set the nail in the coffin of the Pokémon GO Rush was their decision to remove the Pokémon Radar.

At first, players could find out which Pokémon were nearby in the app, and additionally could download third-party apps to get more detailed data. The problem is, the tracking mechanism behind the functionality of this feature was apparently broken, and instead of fixing it, game developer Niantic chose to simply remove it altogether.

Players were outraged by its removal, instantly noting how much more difficult it made the task of finding the creatures. Third-party apps became redundant, and many people felt that the game was no longer worth playing if there was no reasonable way to keep up with what was nearby.

Niantic would take months to implement a suitable replacement, and by then it was too late.
